The Southern California Southern California, also colloquially known as SoCal, is the southern portion of the U.S. state of California. Centered on the cities of Los Angeles and San Diego, Southern California is home to nearly 24 million people and is the nation's second most populated region,  Higher Education Recruitment Consortium launched socalherc.org to list all jobs--from cooks to provost--available at 23 UC, private and community college campuses.

Depending on their size, campuses pay annual fees of $2,775 to $4,325 for unlimited job postings. Skov said the fees will cover salaries, marketing and development of the site, which is expected to break even in three years as membership grows. At its official launch, the site carried 1,600 job listings.
