College students dig into pockets to help rebuild devastated areas.

College students aren't letting their tuition bills stop them from helping out Asian tsunami victims.

Across the state, college students are holding fund-raisers, passing the hat and digging deep in an effort to aid relief efforts. The projects range from candlelight vigils A candelight vigil is an outdoor assembly of people carrying candles, held after sunset. Such events are typically held either to protest at the suffering of some marginalized group of people, or in memory of lives lost to some disease, disaster, massacre or other tragedy.  to benefit basketball games.

At the University of Oregon The University of Oregon is a public university located in Eugene, Oregon. The university was founded in 1876, graduating its first class two years later. The University of Oregon is one of 60 members of the Association of American Universities. , students are setting up donation stations at the UO Bookstore and the Erb Memorial Union amphitheater, where they'll will collect contributions between 9 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Tuesday. They also will hold a candlelight vigil at 5 p.m. in the amphitheater.

Money raised will go to OXFAM to help with rebuilding and medical needs. The effort is sponsored by the Oregon Student Public Interest Research Group, student government, the International Student Association and other campus groups.

Lane Community College students also are joining the effort. Student Resource Center snack kiosks will donate 100 percent of their profits today through Friday and along with the LCC (Leadless Chip Carrier, Leaded Chip Carrier) See leadless chip carrier, CLCC and PLCC.

A fund-raising event also is tentatively planned for Feb. 12, and donations will be collected at each of the school's campus cultural nights, starting Saturday.
