College rise in numbers; Enrolment.


TAMWORTH Tamworth, city (1991 pop. 63,260) and district, Staffordshire, W central England. Its products include clothing, textiles, and aluminum ware. An amusement park and zoo are nearby. Tamworth was burned by the Danes in the 9th cent.  & Lichfield Lichfield, town (1991 pop. 25,408) and district, Staffordshire, W central England. Lichfield is a market town with light industries, famous for its three-spired cathedral and its close associations with Dr. Samuel Johnson, who was born there in 1709.  College is on course for a 25 per cent rise in the number of HE students enrolling for the new academic year, following the introduction of a range of new higher courses in everything from film and television production to automotive technology Noun 1. automotive technology - the activity of designing and constructing automobiles

The courses are being offered to students under a partnership with Staffordshire University History
North Staffordshire Polytechnic was formed in 1971 from the Staffordshire College of Technology in Stafford, and the Stoke-on-Trent College of Art and the North Staffordshire College of Technology (both based in Stoke-on-Trent).
 to ensure as many people as possible have access to higher education options without having to travel out of their own areas.

College assistant principal John Fontaine said: "Last year our numbers went up by 25 per cent and we are expecting that sort of increase again. That will mean that overall, our higher education numbers at the college will have grown from just a small number three years ago, to around 500 in 2010."

New for 2008/9 is a Foundation degree in Film and Television Production Technology and Management, which will run at the college's Lichfield School of Art.

Head of school Alison Churchill said: "This is a fantastic twoyear, full-time course offering an exciting programme concentrating on the development of practical technical and management skills that are so vital to jobs in the film and television industry.

"The programme is built around Armoris Media, a production company operating alongside the media courses here in Lichfield."
