College launches new network security program.

Tidewater Community College has added a new career studies certificate program in network security to its curriculum this fall. TCC's program is based on collaboration with member institutions from the Virginia Community College System and that system's institute of Excellence for Information Technology. The program has been designed in response to the needs of regional employers and government organizations. The Network Security Career Studies Certificate program will prepare students to perform the duties of a network security specialist or information security officer.

Network security awareness is at an all-time high as the nation prepares to protect the critical information infrastructure. "The need for highly trained network security specialists has risen due to the substantial increase in both national and global network and information security threats," said Robert Guess, network security instructor with TCC. "Our network security courses will provide the region's employers with personnel to combat the current barrage of viruses and attacks."
