Collectors to push boat out.


A ROYAL speedboat will go under the hammer at a special auction this weekend.

, will be one of the star attractions at the rivercraft sale in Henley-on-Thames tomorrow.

The speedboat, expected to fetch pounds 5,000, was presented to the duke in 1956 and was kept on board the Royal Yacht A Royal Yacht is a ship used by a monarch or a royal family. Most of them are financed by the government of the country of which the monarch is head. The Royal Yacht is most often manned by personnel from the navy and used by the monarch and his/her family on both private and  HMS Britannia until 1968. It was then sent to Balmoral for use on the lake by the Royal Family.

A racing boat, the ''Batboat II,'' used in the British International Trophy Races between the wars, is also expected to attract interest.

The single-step hydroplane hydroplane, small, high-powered racing boat designed to skim along the surface of the water. Its hull is so shaped that at high speeds the bow is tilted up out of the water, reducing the effect of frictional drag. Hydroplanes are commonly powered by outboard motors. , used for illegal liquor runs on the Hudson River during the 1930s, could sell for as much as pounds 9,000.
