City (pop., 2000: 8,008,278), southeastern New York, at the mouth of the Hudson River. The largest city in the U.S.
 landmark that stood for 27 years at 57th Street and Broadway until January 2002, will re-open in April 2003. The store has just signed a long-term lease at 11 West 42nd St. for approximately 11,000 SF of retail space.

Coliseum, which grew to be the largest independent bookstore in Manhattan, was a New York City cultural icon A cultural icon is an object or person which is distinctive to, or particularly representative of, a specific culture. An example is the bowler hat which could be considered an English cultural icon. Others include tea, The Beatles and association football.  and destination for book lovers across the metropolitan area. The store was staffed with bibliophiles, and was known for its excellent and eclectic stock of books. The store closed its Columbus Circle Columbus Circle, named for Christopher Columbus, is a major landmark and point of attraction in the New York City borough of Manhattan. Completed in 1905 and renovated a century later, it is located at the intersection of Broadway, Central Park West, Central Park South (59th  location last January year when its lease expired.

The new store, across from the New York City Public Library at 42nd Street, will be a full-service bookstore, and will also feature a coffee and wine bar. "We are thrilled to announce our re-opening in April," said George Leibson, Coliseum's owner. "And we're especially glad to be reopening at another major crossroads in Manhattan, where we look forward again to serving our loyal customers."

Philip Metzidakis, president of The Jansizian Group, Ltd., was Coliseum's exclusive broker. "We worked with Coliseum for 18 months. We had to find a high-traffic location suitable for a bookstore, as well as a landlord who saw the value of this 'one of a kind' New York New York, state, United States
New York, Middle Atlantic state of the United States. It is bordered by Vermont, Massachusetts, Connecticut, and the Atlantic Ocean (E), New Jersey and Pennsylvania (S), Lakes Erie and Ontario and the Canadian province of
 retailer. We put the pieces together in Tishman Spever's building at 42nd and Fifth. I believe this location will be wonderful for Coliseum, and Coliseum will be wonderful for midtown."
