Coletti, president of the Building Trades Employers' Association, addressed the Queens Chamber of Commerce on December 1 during its 93rd Annual Dinner and Building Awards ceremony. Sponsored by HSBC HSBC Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation HSBC Humane Society of Broward County (Florida) HSBC Humane Society of Bay County (Bay County, Michigan) Bank, the annual gala celebrated the builders and developers that make Queens a beautiful place to live and work. Coletti promoted the role of the construction industry in improving life for Queens' and New York New York, state, United States New York, Middle Atlantic state of the United States. It is bordered by Vermont, Massachusetts, Connecticut, and the Atlantic Ocean (E), New Jersey and Pennsylvania (S), Lakes Erie and Ontario and the Canadian province of City's middle-class families. He noted that the average salary of those working on Queens construction sites was $57,500--$20,000 above the average annual salary in Queens for other workers. He also cited the September 2006 opening in Queens of the Design, Engineering and Construction Trades High School which will help local children begin a career in the construction industry. The school is a result of the Mayor's Commission on Construction Opportunities, which Coletti served on. Coletti went on to applaud Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg for his leadership on economic development issues in all five boroughs. "For the first time in my 25 years of experience in the construction industry we have an administration that has challenged us to think big and be creative. And who is willing to incorporate strategies through private economic development in a way that can achieve social changes to benefit all New Yorkers," said Coletti. Coletti concluded his remarks by saying that New York has in front of it "an unprecedented opportunity to expand the city's middle-class and solidify our place as the capital of the world." |
