The DKIM protocol uses a unique signature "key" applied to each message by the network of origin that can be verified by receiving networks to prove that a message originated in the location that its envelope information claims. The DKIM protocol is a joint solution based on elements of two advanced encrypted-key protocols: DomainKeys, developed by Yahoo and Identified Internet Mail, authored by Cisco Systems.
