With this in mind I started to do some research into home wind generators, my reasoning being I could supplement off the grid power with some generated from my own turbine.

The turbine was to be two metres in diameter and plugged directly into one of your domestic power sockets.

On studying the information pack provided by the manufacturer I noticed it was going to take 15 years to recoup recoup

my outlay and the turbine's lifespan was 10 years.

Now I don't know about you but those figures did not quite give me a warm glow all over. Having said that maybe a Kirklees councillor could find some positives in those figures? Did they look at the specification sheets and predicted returns for the civic centre turbines? If they did and they were mis-sold these turbines then we should be due a refund.

For the long term they should be dismantled and placed in Tolson Museum as a reminder of how a good idea and intentions sometimes fail.
