Coil heaters last longer in pelletizer dies.

Starting about two years ago, Gala in Germany (U.S. office in Eagle Rock, Va.), retrofitted coil heaters in underwater pelletizer dies to replace cartridge heaters and found that the coils lasted far longer than cartridges. Coil heaters are not typically used in pelletizer dies because they cost twice as much as cartridge heaters. Coils fit into the same space as cartridges but have direct metal-to-metal contact, so they heat more efficiently. That also makes them less likely to freeze off when running nylons or micropellets.
