This picture book introduces young readers to the writer Johann Wolfgang von Goethe through the fictional tale of Anna, a young girl who spends a season with him in his garden. This story focuses on Goethe's interest in botany botany, science devoted to the study of plants. Botany, microbiology, and zoology together compose the science of biology. Humanity's earliest concern with plants was with their practical uses, i.e., for fuel, clothing, shelter, and, particularly, food and drugs.  and drawing. His particular way of seeing both science and art in his garden is expressed in an engaging way through Anna's journey, which ends when she finally learns how to "dance with nature," even though her beloved teacher has passed away. It's a story about friendship as well as beauty. If the story itself does not inspire the reader, the breathtaking breath·tak·ing

 illustrations by Paul Mirocha will. His vibrant watercolors work beautifully alongside the text. This is a lovely and informative book. Ages 7 up.
