Coherent reaches out to control far end echo.

LEESBURG, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 15, 1995--Outreach(TM) far end echo cancellation The elimination of an echo in a two-way voice transmission. Echo is created in the telephone company's central office switch when two-wire lines from the customer are converted to four-wire lines for backbone trunks.  software is the latest innovative echo control solution from the leading echo cancellation and voice quality specialist, Coherent Communications Systems In telecommunication, a communications system is a collection of individual communications networks, transmission systems, relay stations, tributary stations, and data terminal equipment (DTE) usually capable of interconnection and interoperation to form an integrated whole.  Corp. of Leesburg, Va.

The benefits of Outreach Outreach is an effort by an organization or group to connect its ideas or practices to the efforts of other organizations, groups, specific audiences or the general public.  are significant: for international telcos acting as hubs for currently underdeveloped un·der·de·vel·oped

markets, (such as Vietnam, the Phillipines, China, Cuba and Malaysia) it provides all the the requisite facilities for full echo control. It also overcomes the problems associated with complex interconnected calls, providing a solution to addresses differing echo control standards between the local and far-end of a call.

It enables the local operator to exercise better control over the quality of a call coming into their network, ensuring that their customers do not suffer potential degradation of service.

In essence, Outreach overcomes the limitations of conventional echo cancellation practice, in which digital echo cancellers See echo cancellation.  are installed at both ends of the network, and end-to-end control is applied via a single international service provider. Outreach can be located at one end of the international connection, while providing echo control for the distant end. By allowing the local network operator to take control of both the local and far-end call in this way, the entire process can be monitored and the incoming call be adjusted to ensure the optimum quality as required.

Using the Coherent EC-6000 and EC-7000 digital echo canceller as the core hardware platform, Outreach enables end path delays in excess of 600 ms (round trip) of echo cancellation, even handling conventional satellite connections. The software effectively treats far-end echo created at the hybrid 2-to 4-wire interface, plus its dynamic configuration provides a detailed analysis of any background noise treatment (for example, of the electrical echo from the distant end). Outreach also incorporates a user-setable network delay, which enables operators to fine tune the echo control to suit their parameters, by increasing the echo cancellation capability without any degradation in performance.

Outreach is fully compatible with Coherent's range of innovative, application-specific software solutions which are designed to provide value-added facilities and enhanced echo canceller performance. Fully future-proof, they provide a fast, cost-effective means of enhancing or upgrading network performance via remotely downloaded software.
