Coherent and NEC Partner to Supply Digital Echo Canceller to the Pakistan Telecommunications Company Ltd.


LEESBURG, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 14, 1996--As part of Coherent Communications Systems Corporation's strategic alliance with NEC (NEC Corporation, Tokyo, www.nec.com, www.necus.com) An electronics conglomerate known in the U.S. for its monitors. In Japan, it had the lion's share of the PC market until the late 1990s (see PC 98).

 Communications Systems Ltd., (Japan), Coherent has completed the supply of some 5,000 channels of the EC-6000 Series 2 Digital Echo Canceller See echo cancellation.  to the Pakistan Telecommunications Company See telecom company.  Ltd. for use with their new NEAX NEAX Nippon Electric Automated Exchange  international digital gateway switch. The Pakistan order is the latest in a series of joint supply agreements with NEC. As part of the supply, Coherent also provided training for the Pakistan Telecommunications Company at their Leesburg, VA facilities.

The EC-6000 is designed to interface directly to the NEAX Series of digital gateway switches and has been successfully deployed in more than twelve countries around the world in conjunction with the NEAX switch. The EC-6000 Series 2 digital echo canceller provides advanced echo control for the full spectrum of wireline, wireless and satellite transmission systems. Fully compliant with ITU-T See ITU.

 standards, the EC-6000 Series 2 features Coherent's state of the art ASIC (Application Specific Integrated Circuit) Pronounced "a-sick." A chip that is custom designed for a specific application rather than a general-purpose chip such as a microprocessor.  devices, providing a flexible and fully future-proof platform for consistent, reliable performance.

The EC-6000 Series 2 supports Coherent's range of application-specific software, enhancing the unit's operation for a wide range of different network situations. Software can be remotely downloaded and upgraded, providing a versatile and cost-effective means of maintaining maximum operational flexibility. In addition, the unit features local loopback facilities, improved alarm reporting and self-test diagnostics, as well as significantly reduced power consumption for improved performance.
