) has announced two wireless contracts in the Asia Pacific region, demonstrating the quality advantage being delivered by Coherent's EC-6000 Series 2 Digital Echo Cancellers for digital cellular applications. The contracts involve solving BellSouth's Mobile Acoustic Echo problem in New Zealand New Zealand (zē`lənd), island country (2005 est. pop. 4,035,000), 104,454 sq mi (270,534 sq km), in the S Pacific Ocean, over 1,000 mi (1,600 km) SE of Australia. The capital is Wellington; the largest city and leading port is Auckland.  and supplying equipment to Hutchison Telecom in Hong Kong Hong Kong (hŏng kŏng), Mandarin Xianggang, special administrative region of China, formerly a British crown colony (2005 est. pop. 6,899,000), land area 422 sq mi (1,092 sq km), adjacent to Guangdong prov. .

BellSouth New Zealand have implemented Coherent's Enhanced Audio Plus(tm) software product on their GSM Cellular Mobile network to control acoustic echo from the mobile subscriber. Designed as a software upgrade to Coherent's successful EC-6000 Digital Echo Canceller, Enhanced Audio Plus provides effective control of acoustic echo generated by the mobile handset. It is also able to optimize the levels on the overall network, providing a much improved subjective call quality for the user. Coherent's Australian subsidiary - COHPAC COHPAC Compact Hybrid Particulate Collector  Communications Systems, Pty Ltd PTY LTD Propriety Limited (company structure in Australia) ., provided the technical support needed during the initial evaluations. In Hong Kong, Coherent has supplied echo cancellation The elimination of an echo in a two-way voice transmission. Echo is created in the telephone company's central office switch when two-wire lines from the customer are converted to four-wire lines for backbone trunks.  for Hutchison Telecom's fast-growing GSM digital cellular network. The Coherent EC-6000 cancellers were selected after extensive trials.
