Coherent Networks Introduces New Gateway to CYMDIST; New Target-Specific Gateway Allows Fast, Reliable Delivery of Data Required by the CYMDIST Load Analysis System.

Business Editors/Hi-Tech Writers

SYRACUSE, N.Y.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 29, 2001

Coherent Networks, Inc., a provider of technology-based data-management solutions for power utilities, today announced the introduction of its FastGate/CYMDIST Gateway, a product that allows fast delivery of high-quality facility, customer, and real-time data Real-time data denotes information that is delivered immediately after collection. There is no delay in the timeliness of the information provided.

to CYMDIST engineering analysis software. This new, pre-built gateway configuration not only ensures optimal performance from the CYMDIST system, but also eliminates the need for custom-coded interfaces, allowing faster, more economical implementation of the CYMDIST application.

The new FastGate/CYMDIST Gateway is designed as an advanced data-transport and data-development resource for power utilities who are preparing to install the CYMDIST product, who are upgrading to a newer version of CYMDIST, or who are using the software currently but seek enhanced reliability and system performance. The new gateway takes advantage of FastGate's configurable import processes, which allow access to data from the leading GIS (1) (Geographic Information System) An information system that deals with spatial information. Often called "mapping software," it links attributes and characteristics of an area to its geographic location.  and CAD systems, from industry-standard relational databases relational database

In that same year, with help from IBM, Sybase created an OS/2 version that Microsoft licensed and branded as Microsoft SQL Server.  (which are typically used to store customer-related data), and from real-time data sources such as PI.

In addition to accessing data from these required sources and integrating it for delivery to CYMDIST, the FastGate/CYMDIST Gateway can be configured con·fig·ure

and electrical connectivity, for example, and can perform a broad range of data-enhancement tasks including automated population of attribute values, object placement, creation of associations, and data verification. Automated, rule-based processes are also run to check for valid and required associations and attribute values related to primaries, devices, and other specified network data. The configured FastGate software also runs checks that are specific to the requirements of the target CYMDIST software. Such data-development tools ensure that the data delivered to the CYMDIST system is accurate and complete.

"CYMDIST is an engineering tool that requires complex modeling data," said Marc Coursol, vice president of business development at CYME Cyme (sī`mē), ancient Greek city of W Asia Minor, on the Ionian Sea and N of the present Smyrna in W Asian Turkey. The FastGate/CYMDIST Gateway is an excellent and efficient product that will deliver reliable data to our application. What is very encouraging is that this gateway is flexible and can easily be adapted as new fields or attributes become available or are modified in the source data."

Larry Kuhl, vice president of partnerships and business development at Coherent Networks. "It needs to draw on data from different sources, including mapping, customer, and real-time information, and that kind of broad data access is one of FastGate's strengths. In addition, our ability to enhance, validate, and integrate that data effectively allows the CYMDIST software to operate at its maximum performance level. Our pre-built gateway allows all of this to happen quickly, without any custom programming or costly interfaces."

In addition to the FastGate/CYMDIST Gateway, Coherent Networks offers FastGate configurable gateways to other major enterprise systems used by gas and electric service providers. FastGate allows a fast, economical source-to-target deployment that gives the target system the data it needs to perform at its full potential. Deployable regardless of the source systems or target applications involved, FastGate helps power utilities improve operating efficiencies, enhance customer service, and optimize optimize - optimisation  management of their data assets.

About Coherent Networks

Founded in 1995, Coherent Networks, Inc., uses advanced gateway technology to provide data-management solutions for power utilities worldwide. The company's flagship product--FastGate gateway software--offers an effective strategy for accessing data from diverse sources, augmenting and integrating that data, and delivering it to a wide range of target systems. As a result, FastGate allows utilities to deploy outage out·age
