Coherent Innovations at Telecom 95.

LEESBURG, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 19, 1995-- Leading echo cancellation and voice enhancement technology specialist, Coherent Communications Systems, unveiled a number of product innovations for wireline and wireless networks at Telecom 95.

World debuts at Telecom 95:

New at Telecom was Coherent's brand new Noise Cancellation Technology, designed to overcome the problems of noise in a variety of applications, improving call quality and intelligibility significantly. In terms of applications, Coherent is focusing principally on wireless networks, where its noise cancellation solution combats the high background noise and acoustic echo problems which cause severe degradation of voice quality.

Coherent's noise cancellation technology uses Active Noise Control and the latest adaptive filtering techniques to combat the problems of noisy conditions.

As a result, the performance of automated speech recognition and voice compression algorithms are also considerably improved. The technology eliminates noise from a variety of sources - acoustic, electronic and mechanical - operating in real time. Using Coherent's patented RISC processor, operation is comparably twice as fast as DSP-based systems.

Other applications for Coherent's noise cancellation include helping to improve the operating quality and efficiency of DCME equipment, digital cellular voice encoders and other voice compression devices. In addition, the latest noise cancellation processing will be applied across Coherent's products for open office audio conferencing, such as the Call PortTM desktop system.

On show for the first time was the EC-6000 Series 2 digital echo canceller, providing advanced echo control for both wireline telephony and wireless digital cellular systems. Fully compliant with ITU-T standards, the EC-6000 Series 2 features Coherent's state of the art ASIC devices, providing a flexible and fully future-proof platform for consistent, reliable performance. Optimized to ensure superior "subjective" voice quality and fail-safe facsimile transmission, the Coherent canceller uses patented Non-Linear Processor (NLP) techniques for fast and stable convergence (50 ms for combined ERL and ERLE of 35 dB) - a prerequisite for modern network applications.

Coherent also unveiled the latest additions to its range of application-specific software solutions, designed for use on the EC-6000 and EC-7000 hardware platforms. These included:

o Enhanced Audio PlusTM software, developed to enhance voice quality on digital cellular and wireless networks;

o Sculptured Soundr Voice and Data Enhancement System, a sophisticated audio processing solution to enhance the quality of speech in the network.

o NetwiseTM Signalling Software for Integrated Service Digital Networks (ISDN) traffic management, improving ISDN traffic flows and maximising performance across voice, data and video circuits.

o VFaxTM Transmission Enhancement Software, designed to improve the reliability and cost-effectiveness of facsimile and high speed modem transmission.

o InsiteTM Performance Monitoring System, using the digital echo canceller as the platform to provide network performance data across various network modules.
