) announced today the CEC-128, a preprogrammed, ready-to-install, scaleable echo canceller See echo cancellation.  module that meets or exceeds all of the requirements for G.165 and the new, more comprehensive G.168 standard. This canceller is encapsulated in a compact ball grid array “BGA” redirects here. For other uses, see BGA (disambiguation).

A ball grid array (BGA) is a type of surface-mount packaging used for integrated circuits.
(BGA (Ball Grid Array) A popular surface mount chip package that uses a grid of solder balls as its connectors. Available in plastic and ceramic varieties, BGA is noted for its compact size, high lead count and low inductance, which allows lower voltages to be used. ) package for surface mounting on printed circuit boards for OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) The rebranding of equipment and selling it. The term initially referred to the company that made the products (the "original" manufacturer), but eventually became widely used to refer to the organization that buys the products and  manufacturers.

The module is configurable to support up to 96 channels of echo cancellation and is scaleable in tail length and capacity (up to 360 channels) by cascading additional modules. Single designs are replicable to support even denser requirements. The product will be provided with complete interface design information so that manufacturers can design the echo canceller into their products without external assistance, enabling retention of the confidentiality of new product development.

A principal feature of the new module is the availability of annual downloadable software upgrades. This "shrink-wrap" upgrade provides complete flexibility to the OEM manufacturer for maintaining the Coherent voice quality advantage over the product's installed life.

The CEC-128 enables the OEM manufacturer's engineers to use Coherent's extensive voice quality experience in their designs on a timely basis, without diverting the manufacturer's extensive design and development resources from their core competency.

Preliminary application information is now available. Design data, including software interface documentation and application notes will be available in June 1998. CEC-128 engineering samples and an evaluation module which emulates its capabilities will be available in September 1998. Inclusion of the CEC-128 in product design will give the OEM manufacturer comparable cost to other integrated solutions while providing the additional value of upgradeability and echo cancellation by Coherent, which has become renown for excellent performance and voice quality.

Except for the historical information contained herein, this news release contains forward looking statements regarding the marketability of new products and the gaining of new customers. The risks and uncertainties associated with the continued acceptance of the new products, competition, market growth, and the timely availability and the pricing of products, as well as other risks detailed in the Company's SEC reports could cause actual results to differ from those in the forward looking statements.
