Cognos Appoints Michael A. Morrison VP and General Manager, Financial Performance Management.


- Veteran software industry executive to lead Cognos' financial performance management product initiatives -

OTTAWA & BURLINGTON, Mass. -- Cognos[R] (NASDAQ: COGN) (TSX: CSN), the world leader in business intelligence and performance management solutions, today appointed Michael A. Morrison as VP and General Manager, Financial Performance Management.

Mr. Morrison will report to Cognos Senior Vice-President of Products, Peter Griffiths. He joins Cognos from Applix, where he served as Chief Operating Officer and held responsibility for all sales, marketing and services operations.

At Cognos, Mr. Morrison will have primary responsibility for driving sustainable growth in financial performance management through the delivery of market-leading product; investment planning and market requirements; and engagement and support of sales teams to help facilitate growth and solution success on a global scale.

Prior to joining Applix in 2004, Mr. Morrison held various positions at Cognos, including vice president of enterprise planning operations, vice president of finance and administration, and corporate counsel. During his 11-year tenure with Cognos, he also led the Cognos financial applications business unit, helping pioneer the business and increase sales. Prior to joining Cognos in 1993, Mr. Morrison worked for NYNEX (now Verizon) as a senior attorney.
