Cognio Provides SNMP for Spectrum Expert to Simplify WiFi Management.

New Functionality Provides Advanced Capabilities to Cognio's Customers and Partners, including AirWave and WildPackets

GERMANTOWN, Md. -- Cognio, the market leader in spectrum analysis and management for WiFi, today announced the addition of SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol) A widely used network monitoring and control protocol. Data are passed from SNMP agents, which are hardware and/or software processes reporting activity in each network device (hub, router, bridge, etc.  to its spectrum management solution. With Spectrum Expert 3.1, shipping today, WLAN See wireless LAN.

WLAN - wireless local area network
operators can integrate spectrum information into their network management systems, receive traps and alarms based on performance and security information, and leverage Spectrum Expert running in a remote laptop as a wireless sensor see mote.  for ongoing analysis. This capability adds valuable missing physical-layer information to existing wireless management systems, making these systems more robust and better able to support the innovative, real-time communication services enterprise IT managers are moving to deploy.

Additionally, Cognio has integrated this same information into its base release, making the technology available not only through Cognio, but also through Cognio's OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) The rebranding of equipment and selling it. The term initially referred to the company that made the products (the "original" manufacturer), but eventually became widely used to refer to the organization that buys the products and  relationships, including AirMagnet, Fluke Networks and WildPackets. With Spectrum Expert 3.1, virtually any SNMP-based network management tool, such as HP OpenView HP OpenView was a Hewlett Packard product range consisting of an extensive portfolio of network and systems management products. In 2007 the entire HP OpenView portfolio was rebranded under the strengthened HP Software name. , IBM (International Business Machines Corporation, Armonk, NY, www.ibm.com) The world's largest computer company. IBM's product lines include the S/390 mainframes (zSeries), AS/400 midrange business systems (iSeries), RS/6000 workstations and servers (pSeries), Intel-based servers (xSeries)  Tivoli or even other open source offerings, is able to integrate spectrum information via Cognio's new SNMP trap capabilities. This level of integration streamlines WLAN service management and delivery options, and makes it easier for enterprise IT managers to leverage, secure and optimize their wireless investment.

Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) is an application layer protocol that facilitates the exchange of management information between network devices. It is part of the Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP TCP/IP

) protocol suite. SNMP enables network administrators to manage network performance, find and solve network problems and plan for network growth.

AirWave, one of the most innovative wireless management solutions companies, will be able to utilize Cognio's platform to extend their management capabilities of WLAN networks.

"With this upcoming integration, when the AirWave wireless network management software detects a performance problem in a particular area, IT can dispatch an engineer with Cognio's Spectrum Expert to determine the cause of the problem and then transmit the information back to the management software via SNMP, creating a permanent record and audit trail," said Greg Murphy Greg Murphy (23 August, 1972) is a New Zealand racing driver. Born in Hastings he become involved in motor sports by the age of eight, progressing through karts to saloons and single-seaters before moving to Australia.

Murphy first competed at the Bathurst circuit in 1994.

. "This type of integration helps IT managers identify and resolve RF problems more efficiently, resulting in improved performance and lower operational cost."

In addition, OEMs of Cognio's technologies, such as WildPackets, are leveraging these new capabilities to extend the functionality of their own solutions.

"Taking advantage of Cognio's SNMP traps and OmniPeek's open API Open API (often referred to as OpenAPI) is a word used to describe sets of technologies that enable websites to interact with each other by using SOAP, Javascript any other web technology. , we're able to create a solution that accelerates problem-solving for network engineers," said Mahboud Zabetian, president and CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board.  of WildPackets. "Using traps and filters, an engineer can ensure that 802.11a/b/g and now 802.11n traffic is captured and analyzed whenever a suspicious or problematic interferer appears in the spectrum. This makes it even easier for engineers to leverage the strengths of both Cognio's spectrum analysis technology and WildPackets' expert wireless analysis for troubleshooting and optimizing WiFi networks."

OmniSpectrum, WildPackets' spectrum analysis solution based on Cognio's technologies, already integrates this solution as well.

"Physical layer visibility and policies are the difference between a convenience network that you occasionally use, and a business critical network that you can rely on to replace Ethernet in your business and provide employee mobility," said Neil Diener, CTO (Chief Technical Officer) The executive responsible for the technical direction of an organization. "Cognio is working hard with our thousands of customers and with our partners to make it easier for IT managers to cut the cord and build wireless networks they can rely on for mobile connectivity."

About WildPackets

WildPackets, Inc., a leading provider of network and application analysis solutions, is taking advantage of Spectrum Expert SNMP traps to offer new capture and analysis capabilities for its popular OmniPeek network analyzer A specialized hardware device or software in a desktop or laptop computer that captures packets transmitted in a network for routine inspection and problem detection. Also called a "sniffer," "packet sniffer," "packet analyzer," "traffic analyzer" and "protocol analyzer," the network . When OmniSpectrum (WildPackets' rebranded version of Spectrum Expert), OmniPeek, and the new OmniSpectrum Interferer Adapter are installed on the same laptop PC, network engineers can see a continually updated list of interferers in OmniPeek. SNMP traps update the list whenever a new interferer is detected. In addition, traps can be configured to automatically start or stop packet captures in OmniPeek. This new capability enables network engineers to correlate WiFi interference problems to network events, such as connectivity problems. For more information, visit www.wildpackets.com.
