Cognio Names Thomas McPherson Chief Executive Officer; Company Adds Richard Bravman, Industry Visionary and former Symbol CEO, to Its Board.

WALTHAM, Mass. -- Cognio, Inc., the leading innovator of Intelligent Spectrum Management(TM) solutions that enable enterprises to maximize the performance and reliability of their WiFi networks, today announced the appointment of Thomas McPherson as chief executive officer. Mr. McPherson, who has held various executive positions at start-ups and multi-national corporations, joins the Cognio team along with recently appointed board member, Richard Bravman, a recognized leader in the wireless industry.

Mr. McPherson brings Cognio more than 25 years of expertise in engineering and management from building new companies to expanding and growing enterprises. Most recently, Mr. McPherson served as president and CEO at Hatteras Networks, a venture-backed company providing carrier Ethernet access products. Prior to that, Mr. McPherson held executive positions at enterprise networking companies including Nortel Networks, Network Equipment and Bay Networks. At Rapid City Communications he was founder and COO prior to their acquisition by Bay. Mr. McPherson also served as general manager of the DirectPC division of Hughes Electronics and COO of Hughes LAN Systems, and held management positions at Picture Element and M/A-COM.

"As the wireless industry moves towards mission critical and high business impact applications, comprehensive and realtime analysis of RF activity in the shared frequency bands will be required to achieve the expected level of reliability," said McPherson. As an additional significant development, Cognio has added Richard Bravman to its board of directors. Most recently, Mr. Bravman served at Symbol Technologies as its Vice Chairman and CEO. During his 26-year tenure at Symbol, he contributed significantly to the growth and success of the company as it expanded from a five person start-up into a $1.5 billion dollar business, and the leader in enterprise mobility solutions.
