"We played really well in patches," said Caernarfon head coach Ieuan Jones. "To be fair to Colwyn Bay though they look as though they've lost a lot of personnel over the summer, we didn't recognise half of their team and they look a young bunch as well. "But they kept going right to the end and never made it easy for us at all. We had to work for everything we got and I am delighted with the win." Last season Caernarfon collected more bonus points than anyone else in the division, but still missed out on retaining their league title having lost one more match than champions Nant Conwy. And Jones admits that's not a mistake his side are going to make again. Jones added: "Bonus points are exactly what they are, a bonus, but the first thing you have to do is win your games and that is what cost us last season. "We had more bonus points, more tries scored, less points conceded, but because we lost one game and finished level on points at the top of the table, we finished in third place." "It's was extremely difficult and to be brutally honest it's going to be difficult season," he said. "We lost a few players over the summer, and we didn't have a big squad of players anyway to be honest. And when you add in a few pre-season injuries as well it just makes it that much tougher. "But to be fair to the boys they gave 100% and that's all I can ask for, we were just beaten comprehensively by a very good side." CAPTION(S): Cofis coach Ieuan Jones |
