"The PNG Coffee Growers Federation aims to increase the country's coffee export to two million bags by 2020. The federation said it could achieve the target through a marketing strategy that will become a major force in doubling coffee export 15 years from now. PNGCGF chairman Jon Yogiyo said the first step is to increase the planting of coffee seedlings by five per cent yearly. He said after realising the importance and impact of the 'growers direct' marketing strategy for 80% of small growers in the country, the Avani Coffee Growers Co-operative has promised to go back to producing coffee. The co-operative represents coffee growers from Kompri Valley to Barola hill in Eastern Highlands Eastern Highlands, c.2,400 mi (3,860 km) long, general name for the mountains and plateaus roughly paralleling the east and southeast coasts of Australia (including Tasmania) and forming the Continental Divide (see Great Dividing Range); rises to Mt.  province. Mr Yogiyo said the co-operative is calling on other coffee growers' co-operatives in the country to commit to increasing production aside from coming out with quality coffee beans coffee bean

,' Mr Yogiyo said. 'The PNGCGF has developed this unique direct marketing strategy for coffee growers, which gives them the best opportunity to take good control of the coffee industry.' 'They can no longer be just classified as coffee growers but also exporters, importers and roasters,' Mr Yogiyo said. Since the creation of the federation a year ago, the members have planted about 35,000 coffee seedlings, covering an area of 10 hectares. Mr Yogiyo said total estimate on the number of new trees planted by 230 coffee growers' co-operatives stands at eight million. 'The coffee growers alone have the capacity to increase and sustain production and for this, they should be given the right incentives to promote the industry,' he said, adding that PNGCGF is providing those incentives."
