CodeGear's 3rdRail(tm) IDE for Ruby on Rails Is Recognized in Jolt Awards.

SCOTTS VALLEY, Calif. -- CodeGear, a leader in developer tools, today announced that its 3rdRail(tm) integrated development environment (IDE) for Ruby on Rails (RoR) has been recognized as a Productivity Winner at the 18th Annual Software Development Jolt Awards sponsored by Dr. Dobbs Journal.

CodeGear 3rdRail is an open-source framework written in the Ruby programming language and popular with next-generation Web developers. It was named one of three Productivity Winners in the Web Development category.

Dr. Dobb's announced winners during a ceremony at the Software Development Conference and Expo in Santa Clara, CA. Dr. Dobb's Jolt Product Excellence Awards are presented annually to showcase products that have "jolted" the industry with their significance and made the task of creating software faster, easier, and more efficient. Jolt Cola, the fabled soft drink quaffed by software developers for sustenance during project development marathons, sponsors the awards presentation.

CodeGear released the first version of 3rdRail in September 2007. At the Software Development Conference and Expo this week, CodeGear announced version 1.1 of the product. It includes a fast Ruby debugger that CodeGear developed and contributed to Eclipse as part of the Dynamic Languages Toolkit framework. CodeGear 3rdRail 1.1 also offers support for Rails 2.0, Rails refactorings and conversion tools to move applications from Rails 1.x to 2.x, and other enhancements.

"With 3rdRail we set out to create a Rails-centric Ruby IDE for Web 2.0 development that is fast, focused and uncluttered - with features such as intelligent code completion, refactoring, smart code navigation, editing, debugging and others," said Michael Swindell, Vice President of Products and Strategy. "We're very happy to receive the Jolt award and proud of 3rdRail."
