Cocoa Beach Police Department Goes Live with MeshNetworks Mobile Broadband Data Solution.

MAITLAND, Fla. -- Breakthrough Mobile Mesh System to Provide High-Speed "Always-On" Access to Databases, Images, Video and Reporting Tools for Enhanced Community Services

MeshNetworks, Inc. and Scientel America Inc. today announced that the City of Cocoa Beach has gone live with its MeshNetworks Enabled Architecture (MEA(TM)) mobile broadband network as the City's first ever mobile data solution. The City of Cocoa Beach chose MeshNetworks via an RFP process following an extensive review of various mobile broadband solutions and vendors. The MEA system provides mobile broadband connectivity throughout the 6 square mile city for mission critical data communications for the City's Police Department. Cocoa Beach is located on Florida's space coast and is strategically located between the Kennedy Space Center to the north and Patrick Air Force Base to the south. Cocoa Beach is host to over 1.4 million visitors a year.

The MEA network is the only wireless mesh system in the industry to offer seamless mobile connectivity. As a result, Cocoa Beach patrol cars have been transformed into mobile offices, providing officers with "always-on" high-speed access to real-time video, reporting tools, and databases - including the Florida and National Criminal Information Centers (FCIC and NCIC), DMV and other public safety systems. The MEA network allows police officers to perform tasks in the field that would otherwise require them to return to headquarters

In addition to permanent wide area mobile broadband coverage, MEA technology enables officers to form instant tactical broadband networks among themselves at an incident - even if the surrounding network infrastructure has been damaged or destroyed. This user-to-user meshing capability is not available from other commercially deployed meshed Wi-Fi or cellular-based solutions.

The MEA system provides broadband data rates on both the uplink and downlink, ie, both to and from officers in the field. Not only will officers have high-speed access to network-based law enforcement applications, their dashboard video cameras can be monitored remotely at police headquarters or by other officers near by. This support for symmetric broadband data rates is one of the key advantages of a meshed wireless system over cellular or next generation "3G" wireless systems that only offer high-speed on the downlinks. MeshNetworks all-digital, IP-based technology supports existing Internet-ready applications and devices, maximizing current IT investment and minimizing network disruption.
