Cocoa Beach Police Department Goes Live with MeshNetworks Mobile Broadband Data Solution.

MAITLAND, Fla. -- Breakthrough Mobile Mesh System to Provide High-Speed "Always-On" Access to Databases, Images, Video and Reporting Tools for Enhanced Community Services

MeshNetworks, Inc. and Scientel America Inc. today announced that the City of Cocoa Beach has gone live with its MeshNetworks Enabled Architecture (MEA MEA Multiple endocrine adenomatosis. See Multiple endocrine neoplasia. (TM)) mobile broadband network as the City's first ever mobile data solution. The City of Cocoa Beach chose MeshNetworks via an RFP (Request For Proposal) A document that invites a vendor to submit a bid for hardware, software and/or services. It may provide a general or very detailed specification of the system.

The MEA system provides mobile broadband connectivity throughout the 6 square mile city for mission critical data communications for the City's Police Department. Cocoa Beach is located on Florida's space coast and is strategically located between the Kennedy Space Center Kennedy Space Center (Cape Canaveral) U.S.

"MeshNetworks provided us with the best combination of cost, performance and reliability, which allows the Cocoa Beach Police Department, as well as other City departments, to provide enhanced services and improved responsiveness to the community. The City required a system that was truly mobile and not simply portable," said Jeff Thiel, IT Director of the City of Cocoa Beach. "Because of Cocoa Beach's proximity to NASA NASA: see National Aeronautics and Space Administration.

and Air Force facilities, the MEA system may in the future play a role in homeland security initiatives."

The MEA network is the only wireless mesh system in the industry to offer seamless mobile connectivity. As a result, Cocoa Beach patrol cars have been transformed into mobile offices, providing officers with "always-on" high-speed access to real-time video, reporting tools, and databases - including the Florida and National Criminal Information Centers (FCIC FCIC Federal Citizen Information Center (formerly Federal Consumer Information Center; Pueblo, CO, USA)

and other public safety systems. The MEA network allows police officers to perform tasks in the field that would otherwise require them to return to headquarters

In addition to permanent wide area mobile broadband coverage, MEA technology enables officers to form instant tactical broadband networks among themselves at an incident - even if the surrounding network infrastructure has been damaged or destroyed. This user-to-user meshing capability is not available from other commercially deployed meshed Wi-Fi or cellular-based solutions.

"MeshNetworks' mobile broadband system is ideal for agencies requiring mission critical data connectivity while in motion," said Nelson C. Santos, Director of Technology for Scientel America, the Systems Integrator for the Cocoa Beach MEA network. "'The MEA systems' self-forming and self-healing network technology enables cities to rapidly deploy a cost-effective broadband infrastructure, while delivering the performance and survivability sur·viv·a·ble

2. That can be survived: a survivable, but very serious, illness.
that public safety agencies are looking for. No other mobile technology today can provide greater than 95% coverage with symmetrical throughput ranging from 256 kbps to 1Mbps throughout the City of Cocoa Beach."

The MEA system provides broadband data rates on both the uplink and downlink, ie, both to and from officers in the field. Not only will officers have high-speed access to network-based law enforcement applications, their dashboard video cameras can be monitored remotely at police headquarters or by other officers near by. This support for symmetric broadband data rates is one of the key advantages of a meshed wireless system over cellular or next generation "3G" wireless systems that only offer high-speed on the downlinks. MeshNetworks all-digital, IP-based technology supports existing Internet-ready applications and devices, maximizing current IT investment and minimizing network disruption. End-to-end IP support and built-in security technology also allows the MEA network to meet rigorous data security requirements, including FIPS (Federal Information Processing Standards) A series of publications issed by the U.S. National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) that specifies information security guidelines for federal government departments and agencies.  140 compliant Virtual Private Networking (VPN (Virtual Private Network) A private network that is configured within a public network (a carrier's network or the Internet) in order to take advantage of the economies of scale and management facilities of large networks. ) and firewalls.

"The Cocoa Beach Police Department has established itself as a leader in the adoption of state-of-the-art law enforcement technologies. MeshNetworks is proud to have been selected as the mobile broadband solution that Cocoa Beach will use to better protect its citizens and law enforcement personnel," said Richard Licursi, President of MeshNetworks. "We are also pleased to be working with a partner like Scientel America, whose dedication to providing state-of-the-art technology to public safety agencies is helping to make our communities and nation a safer place."

MeshNetworks solutions leverage battlefield networking technology originally developed for the US military under DARPA DARPA: see Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency.

As a result, MEA technology contains important capabilities not found in competitive solutions, including: a layer 2 routing engine, ultra-fast route acquisition, dynamic bandwidth allocation Dynamic Bandwidth Allocation (DBA) is a technique by which traffic bandwidth in a shared telecommunications medium can be allocated on demand and fairly between different users of that bandwidth.  (fairness), real-time congestion The condition of a network when there is not enough bandwidth to support the current traffic load.
