Cocaine courier jailed for 2 years.

Police seized pounds 20,000 of cocaine in a raid on a home in the West End of Newcastle.

Officers searched a house in Britannia Court, Elswick, last March. They recovered a carrier bag with 344 grams of cocaine packed in two plastic bags. Tests later showed it had a purity of 40%, Newcastle Crown Court heard.

"Police say the haul could have made 688 wraps of cocaine, giving a total potential street value of pounds 20,640," said Roger Elsey, prosecuting.

Brown, 31, of Philip Place, Fenham, in Newcastle, was jailed for two years after admitting being involved in the supply of cocaine.

Recorder Julian Goose told him: "It is said on your behalf you were not aware of the seriousness of the drugs you were carrying but as the Court Of Appeal has said on many occasions that in itself is no mitigation."
