Coca-Cola HBC May Close Irish Warehouses.


5 June 2009 - Bottler Coca-Cola HBC Despite its plainly American name (the company's full name is Coca-Cola Hellenic Bottling Company), this Athens, Greece corporation is owned by three Greek-Cypriot families and has the exclusive right to produce under the Coca-Cola brand name in 27 countries.  Ireland Ireland, Irish Eire (âr`ə) [to it are related the poetic Erin and perhaps the Latin Hibernia], island, 32,598 sq mi (84,429 sq km), second largest of the British Isles.  could close its warehousing and distribution depots in Dublin, Cork, Tuam, Tipperary, Waterford and Killarney, with a potential loss of 130 jobs.

It was reported that after a review of the company's operations in Ireland, it found out that costs were exceptionally high compared to other countries. Coca-Cola HBC may seek to outsource its warehousing and distribution operations.

Coca-Cola HBC stressed that no final decision has yet been made and management is beginning a consultation process with unions.

Coca-Cola HBC currently employs 1,250 people in Ireland.
