Akzo Nobel N.V. has received a patent for a coating, adhesive or sealant composition curable by Michael reaction. It is comprised of a Michael acceptor, which is a compound or polymer containing at least two activated olefinic double bonds and a Michael donor, which is a compound or polymer containing at least two nucleophilic groups. The double bends of the Michael accepter are activated by two adjacent electron-withdrawing groups. Alternatively or additionally, the Michael donor contains beta-ketoamide, enamine carboxylate, enamine amide, pyrazolone, isoxazolone, hydantoin, rhodanine, thio-substituted unsaturated ester, thio-substituted lactone or phosphonite or phosphinite ester groups. More rapid ambient temperature curing is achieved.
