Coastcom and CellAccess Technology, Inc. complete successful voice over T1 ATM testing.

ALAMEDA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 17, 1995--Coastcom and CellAccess Technology, Inc. today announced that they have successfully completed interoperability testing between Coastcom's D/I D/I Due-In
D/I Debt to Income ratio
D/I Drop/Insert
D/I Distinctive Insignia
D/I Decimation/Interpolation
Mux III Intelligent T1 Multiplexer and CellAccess' T1 ATM Broadband Multiplexer CAT1500A by transmitting voice over T1 ATM.

The interoperability testing performed at CellAccess' Milpitas, Calif. facility was also demonstrated at the ATM Year 3 conference in San Jose, Calif. In this interoperability test, Coastcom's D/I Mux converted the analog voice grade traffic into the T1 digital service and the CellAccess CAT1500 Mux converted the T1 digital stream received from Coastcom's D/I Mux into ATM cells. ATM cells from the CAT1500 were transmitted to the ATM network/switch via the ATM T1 interface. During this interoperability, a LAN (Local Area Network) A communications network that serves users within a confined geographical area. The "clients" are the user's workstations typically running Windows, although Mac and Linux clients are also used.  router was also connected to the CAT1500A for simultaneous voice and data See SVD.  over the T1 ATM circuit.

The T1 DTE port of the CAT1500A was configured for CBR traffic in compliance with Adaptation Layer 1 (AAL1). Voice transmission through the CAT1500A was based on the structured mode voice transmission proposal by LightStream Corp. to the ATM Forum.

"The complementary nature of the D/I Mux and the CAT1500A offers a powerful solution for connecting legacy traffic over T1 ATM," said Diane Frank, Coastcom's Vice President of Marketing and Sales. "This interoperability provides Coastcom's customers with a migration path to ATM."

Voice over T1 ATM will also be demonstrated in the CellAccess Booth at the InterOp trade show from March 28 through March 30, 1995 in Las Vegas.

Coastcom, headquartered in Alameda, is an established manufacturer of telecommunications equipment for connecting voice, data, and video communications to private and public networks. The D/I Mux III product line, Coastcom's flagship, pioneering family of drop and insert In a multichannel transmission system, a drop and insert is a process that diverts (drops) a portion of the multiplexed aggregate signal at an intermediate point, and introduces (inserts) a different signal for subsequent transmission in the same position, e.g.  T1 multiplexers, supports up to two T1 lines and features Frame Relay data transport, ISDN ISDN

CellAccess' CAT1500A is a T1 ATM access device that multiplexes and converts customers' voice, video and data (including LAN traffic) to ATM cells. It supports both VBR and CBR type traffic through AAL1, AAL3/4 and AAL5 Adaptation Layers.

CellAccess Technology, Inc., a start-up headquartered in Milpitas, is a worldwide supplier of innovative, platform-based, software configurable ATM, Frame Relay, SMDS (Switched Multimegabit Data Service) A high-speed, switched data communications service offered by the local telephone companies for interconnecting LANs in different locations. It was introduced in 1992 and became generally available nationwide by 1995.  and TDM (Time Division Multiplexing) A technology that transmits multiple signals simultaneously over a single transmission path.
