Coastcom's new MX Series extends full digital deskset functions.

ALAMEDA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 31, 1996--All features and functions of the Meridian Series 2000 Digital Deskset can now be cost-effectively extended from a central Meridian PBX (Private Branch eXchange) An inhouse telephone switching system that interconnects telephone extensions to each other as well as to the outside telephone network (PSTN).  to remote locations using Coastcom's new MX Series digital phone extender See Media Center Extender, bus extender and DOS extender.  with the D/I D/I Due-In

After successful beta trials, the MX Series is in production and will soon be available for use by Meridian users who wish to inexpensively provide the off-premise benefits of digital deskset technology.

Public Service of Oklahoma, an electric power company that participated in the beta test, said the MX Series is an economical method of upgrading telecommunications service from Tulsa to its offices throughout the state.

Dick Jones, Public Service's telecommunications supervisor, sees the MX extension technology as a means of improving service to his company's customers by giving local offices better tools to assist with bill processing, customer relations and record keeping.

"We will be able to pull features off our PBX that would not be as cost-effective using a full-blown system," said Jones.

Coastcom Director of Marketing Judith Allen explained, "The MX applications are pretty impressive: extending feature sets anywhere, connecting branch offices to main offices and permitting remote access."

The MX Series will be a boon to companies that wish to take advantage of telecommuting telecommuting, an arrangement by which people work at home using a computer and telephone, transmitting work material to a business office by means of a modem and telephone lines; it is also known as telework.  work arrangements -- such as remote-site clerical workers who need digital set capabilities to function effectively.

"You can also save money by integrating other types of inter-site traffic such as data and compressed video onto a single T1 line," said Allen.

MX Series features and benefits include: -0-
