Coastcom's AIM -- Advanced Intelligent Multiplexer with AIM-Net Enhancements to be shown at ComNet D.C.

ALAMEDA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 19, 1998--Coastcom, a leading manufacturer of telecommunications equipment, will launch its AIM -- Advanced Intelligent Multiplexer at ComNet D.C. '99. show, booth number 2018.

Significant enhancements have been made to increase AIM's functionality and provide added value for customers.

AIM is a next-generation multiservice access concentrator with digital cross connect capability. AIM integrates voice/data services with up to 124 full and fractional T1s, and supports multiple T3s as an M13 or a T3 "drop-and-insert" multiplexer.

A wide array of options are available to detect and recover from equipment or network failures. With superior scalability, high port density, multiple levels of redundancy, and flexible bandwidth allocation, AIM supports diverse types of network traffic while protecting the customer's communications investment.

One of the key elements and enhancements to the AIM platform is the AIM-Net software, a Windows 95/NT graphical application, which allows users to remotely design, develop, provision, and manage their AIM networks. With AIM-Net, users can easily assign feature cards to various AIM nodes, designate routing and cross connections, and export equipment and circuit inventories to any database program compliant with open database connectivity (ODBC).

AIM-Net enables users to easily view and manage their entire network, as well as perform diverse functions ranging from initial network design and configuration to actual operation and maintenance of the network from a single location. AIM-Net is designed to eliminate errors with intuitive cross checking to insure network and node routing connections are valid and consistent.

Specifically, AIM-Net allows users to:

--   Add/delete nodes, links, or feature cards to/from the network
--   Rearrange network configuration
--   Configure feature cards
--   Assign/verify cross connections
--   Map the network
--   Trace individual circuits through multiple AIM nodes
--   Transfer data directly to Coastcom via Electronic Data
     Interchange (EDI) for customer support
--   Export equipment and circuit inventories to ODBC-compliant
     databases.

ComNet DC 99 marks the official launch of AIM with AIM-Net. Coastcom is currently taking orders for the system, which is expected to ship in early spring.
