:PAR) reported financial results for the third quarter and first nine months of fiscal 1997, ended Sept. 30.

For the third quarter of 1997 as compared with the same period in 1996, sales were $43,935,000 vs. $41,495,000, net income was $3,740,000 vs. $4,867,000, and earnings per share were 42 cents vs. 54 cents.

For the first nine months of 1997 as compared with the same period in 1996, sales were $112,874,000 vs. $113,347,000, net income was $7,754,000 vs. $13,389,000, and earnings per share were 87 cents vs. $1.48.

Profit margins continue to be controlled by product mix and revenue flow which are higher this year in irons and putters than metal woods. Compared with the earlier quarters of this year, net income as a percent of sales continued to improve from 4.1 percent in the first quarter to 7.1 percent in the second quarter to 8.5 percent in this third quarter.  and renewed the lease for the facility in Rancho Dominguez. At present, Coastcast occupies about 400,000 square feet of facilities. The Tijuana plant will be approximately 180,000 square feet to begin with, and in about one year there will be a 45 percent increase in space. This is in line with the company policy of creating capacity ahead of demand.

The medical business continues steady and profitable.

The casting business which is non-golf and non-medical is beginning to produce revenue for the company. This is expected to grow steadily, but not to have an impact for a year or more.
