Coal funding approved.THE European Commission is backing the building of Britain's first "clean coal" power station. The proposed coal-fired plant in Hatfield, near Doncaster, equipped with carbon capture and storage Carbon capture and storage (CCS) is an approach to mitigating global warming by capturing carbon dioxide (CO2) from large point sources such as power plants and subsequently storing it instead of releasing it into the atmosphere. (CCS (1) (Common Channel Signaling) A communications system in which one channel is used for signaling and different channels are used for voice/data transmission. Signaling System 7 (SS7) is a CCS system, also known as CCS7. See SS7. ) technology, has been singled out by Brussels to receive pounds 165m of EU funding. The Hatfield scheme has been judged as the third best in Europe by the Commission, beating off rival UK applications for money for CCS development at Longannet and a proposed new power station at Kingsnorth. The funding will be matched by a similar sum from the UK Government,. Liberal Democrat MEP MEP maximum expiratory pressure. MEP, n muscle energy procedure; diagnostic and therapeutic technique. Pulsed muscle energy techniques (MET) and integrated neuromuscular inhibition technique (INIT) are two examples. Chris Davies said: "CCS is moving off the drawing board and into practical application. It's a technology that has the potential to reduce CO2 emissions into the atmosphere by a vast amount." |
