 has appointed Archbishop Diarmuid Martin Diarmuid Martin D.D. (pronunced deer-mid) (born 8 April 1945) is the Roman Catholic Archbishop of Dublin and Primate of Ireland. He was born in Dublin.

The Cardinal said, "The appointment of a highly regarded member of the Roman Curia and a distinguished envoy of the Holy See to the United Nations conveys the Holy Father's particular favour towards the archdiocese as well as signifying the importance that the Pope attaches to the Church's mission to the contemporary secular world in a changing Ireland."

Archbishop Martin expressed his pleasure at being back in Dublin where he grew up, but added that he knew that there are many who are estranged es·trange
