Rupp, who won four individual track titles and ran on Oregon's winning indoor medley relay team, was one of three athletes honored after he compiled a 3.89 grade-point average while majoring in business administration.

The others winners were Kansas State's Scott Sellers Scott Sellers (born 16 August 1986) is an American track and field athlete who holds numerous high school records in the high jump. In addition, 11 Ducks were named to the 2009 USTFCCCA USTFCCCA US Track Field and Cross Country Coaches' Association  Division I men's all-academic track and field team: Matthew Butcher, Eric Hersey, Cyrus Hostetler, Steven Johnson, David Kleck, Britton Nelson, Luke Puskedra, Rupp, Scott Wall, Chris Winter and Alex Wolff.

Bart Rothenberger, who led Mohawk to four state championships, has been hired as boys basketball coach at Central Linn.

Rothenberger led Mohawk to back-to-back state titles in 2002-03 and 2007-08 before stepping down as coach.

He coached at Glendale last season, but his position was eliminated due to budget cuts at the end of the school year.

Rothenberger takes over the Cobras, who went 14-0 last year to win the Mountain View Conference before losing to East Linn Christian in the first round of the playoffs. Rothenberger has hired Ron Neher, who led Powers to the state title in 1974 and Pleasant Hill to the championship in 1999, as his assistant coach. Neher coached the last couple seasons at Crow.

Hockett wins at Cottage Grove Speedway

COTTAGE GROVE - Jesse Hockett continued his successful run through Oregon on Tuesday by winning his heat race and the 30-lap feature at the American Sprint Car Series Northwest Region Speedweek event at the Cottage Grove Speedway.

Hockett, who won Monday at the Southern Oregon Speedway Southern Oregon Speedway is a 3/8-mile banked dirt race track located near White City, Oregon, United States. The track operates on a weekly basis from April through October each year, weather permitting[1].  in White City, inherited the lead when pole-sitter Steven Tiner spun out in turn two with seven laps remaining.

Marist graduate Braud set for all-star contest

Marist graduate Kayla Braud has been selected to play in the Under Armour All-America softball game on July 21 at Disney's Wide World of Sports Complex Coordinates:  Disney’s Wide World of Sports Complex is a 220 acre (89 ha) athletic complex located in Walt Disney World, Lake Buena Vista, Florida, that consists of 8 venues.  in Orlando, Fla. The game features 30 of the top high school players in the nation.

Braud has also been named to the EA Sports All-American team after setting the national record with a 103-game hitting streak. She batted .635 with four home runs and 42 RBIs while leading the Spartans to their second straight state championship this spring.

Willamette Valley teams reach regional tourneys

Three Willamette Valley Babe Ruth Cal Ripken All-Star baseball teams won Southern Oregon state championships over the weekend to earn spots in Pacific Northwest Regional tournaments next week.

Willamette Valley's 10-and-under team, coached by Scott McKee, and 11-year-old team, coached by Rick Haas, will compete in Medford beginning July 22. Willamette Valley's 12-year-old team, coached by Rob Cantwell, will play in Meridian, Idaho, beginning July 23.

Eugene returns home Thursday for a single game against the Three Rivers Sandblasters, who lost 19-9 to Richey's Market of Corvallis on Tuesday. Zach Laxague homered for the Sandblasters (13-13).
