As the Council's leader, Boeheim succeeds Norm Stewart Norm Stewart was an American college basketball coach. He coached at the University of Northern Iowa (then known as State College of Iowa) from 1961 to 1967, but is best known for his career with the University of Missouri from 1967 until 1999. , who retired as the head coach at the University of Missouri in April. Stewart served as the Council's chair for the past three years, and it was his leadership that helped expand Coaches vs. Cancer from his pilot initiative in 1993 to a program that contains over 500 coaches today.
