COACH PREPARATION STANDARDS:

Training and certification regulations for coaches vary dramatically in scope and depth from state to state. The American Sport Education Program (ASEP ASEP American Sport Education Program (Champaign, Illinois)

LOCATING COACH PREPARATION PROGRAMS:

The Directory of College and University Coaching Education Programs reports a total of 179 U.S. higher education institutions that offer coaching education at the graduate or undergraduate degree level.

Coaches seeking certification or an advanced degree may find it inconvenient to attend the traditional on-campus classes. Distance education represents a viable alternative by allowing coaches to stay on the job while earning an advanced degree.

Use the following as a guide to help you identify an appropriate program that meets your needs.

Locating the programs. Search engines and most online educational portals accept college listings. Be aware that a top search engine listing does not indicate program authenticity or academic quality. It is rather an indication of heavy spending on online advertising. At some search sites, unaccredited or bogus colleges hold most of online college listings.
