CoCreate Introduces DMOX For Intelligent Handling of 3-D Legacy Data; Breakthrough Technology Enables Reuse of Legacy and History-based Designs by SolidDesigner.

FORT COLLINS, Colo.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 28, 1998--CoCreate Software Inc., a subsidiary of Hewlett-Packard Company, today introduced Dynamic Modeling Open Extensions (DMOX) technology. Featured in Version 6.0 of CoCreate's SolidDesigner solid-modeling solution, DMOX technology fully supports, within CoCreate's collaborative product-development environment, the reuse and modification of 3-D legacy and history-based models created using non-CoCreate 3-D computer-aided design (CAD) systems.

DMOX technology provides robust data import, automatic integrity and repair rules, intelligent geometry recognition and extended object definition. When importing models using the STEP or IGES data-exchange standards, DMOX technology automatically identifies such model characteristics as bosses, pockets, blends and logical geometric relationships such as tangency conditions. With DMOX technology, the benefits of dynamic modeling now can be applied equally to native SolidDesigner models and to imported legacy models.

One example of the benefits provided by DMOX technology is in the area of intelligent blend recognition, which has not been possible with imported legacy data in any solid-modeling system until now. In the blend-recognition process, the tangency conditions exhibited by each blend are detected and the relationships recorded, making the blend intelligent. When the underlying geometry of the model is subsequently modified within SolidDesigner 6.0, the inherent tangency conditions of the original blend are honored, and the blend is updated automatically in line with expectations.
