CoCreate Announces SolidDesigner 2000+; Release Facilitates Collaboration, Dual Native Windows and Motif User Interface, and Introduces Four New Modules.

Business Editors and High Tech Writers

FORT COLLINS, Colo.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 2, 2000

CoCreate Software Inc., a subsidiary of Hewlett-Packard Company, today announced SolidDesigner 2000+. New features and capabilities in this 3-D modeling software solution will further facilitate the collaborative product-development process and make greater use of the features of Windows(R) and UNIX UNIX

Operating system for digital computers, developed by Ken Thompson of Bell Laboratories in 1969. It was initially designed for a single user (the name was a pun on the earlier operating system Multics).
(R) system platforms.

Four New Modules

The upstream is from the customer to the provider (requesting a Web page, sending e-mail, etc.).  processes, a new SAP-access module expands this engineering-management solution with functionality to connect it with SAP R/3. A new Web-access module delivers a preconfigured Set up ahead of time. It implies that the device or software application has been modified to suit the customer or situation.  individuals in the company to access information and participate in the development process. The new dynamic-parametrics module allows users to easily explore various design alternatives. A new dynamic-assemblies module significantly enhances team-based modeling by setting up positional relations between parts and helps reduce physical prototyping through the use of dynamic clash analysis.

The core functionality of existing modules also has been increased, including efficient handling of complex blends. New functionality in the advanced surfacing module complements SolidDesigner 2000+ by allowing it to model sculptured surfaces and hence to create more complex shapes.

New Levels of Collaboration

SolidDesigner encourages collaboration in several ways. The P. Engineering Solution Web-access module provides everyone in the enterprise with the real-time ability to view, inspect, annotate annotate - annotation  and electronically sign-off on all types of engineering information for a project, including 3-D and 2-D designs.

The SAP-access module allows designers to directly access SAP R/3 to retrieve material numbers, the latest manufacturing BOMs (bill of materials The list of components that make up a system. For example, a bill of materials for a house would include the cement block, lumber, shingles, doors, windows, plumbing, electric, heating and so on. ), and engineering change numbers. Designers also can send design information to SAP.

Photo-realistic imaging allows SolidDesigner users to generate high-quality image files to help suppliers, partners and customers better visualize a new concept.

All design and modeling capabilities remain common to both platforms. The consistent "look and feel" helps users feel comfortable across platforms and allows customers to use the solution with their "platform of choice." SolidDesigner supports native Windows 2000 and Windows NT (Windows New Technology) A 32-bit operating system from Microsoft for Intel x86 CPUs. NT is the core technology in Windows 2000 and Windows XP (see Windows). Available in separate client and server versions, it includes built-in networking and preemptive multitasking. It is based on SVID and incorporates features from BSD Unix along with several HP innovations.

Additional Capabilities

-- The dynamic-parametrics module provides a focused set of
capabilities for parametric modeling. Users with backgrounds in
either parametric or variational modeling can take either approach
in a complementary, rather than competitive, way.

      -- The dynamic-assemblies module significantly enhances team-based
modeling in a collaborative design environment by setting up
positional relations between parts and assemblies. Engineers in a
team can work on different parts from complex assembly at the same
time without destroying relations in the assembly.

-- Enhancements to the SheetAdvisor module allow handling of
complex shapes, making designers much more efficient. Unfold and
bend-animation functions visually simulate the bending process to
    increase design quality.

-- More than 160 customer-driven requests are implemented in
SolidDesigner 2000+, including functions for efficient handling of
complex blends such as changing blends on blends, and blends that
interfere with existing faces. Also new is a cut-and-paste
capability with automatic blend recognition and intelligent
    handling.

SolidDesigner 2000+ is scheduled to be available in May.
