CoCensys Appoints Lowell Sears, former CFO of Amgen, to Board of Directors.


IRVINE, Calif.--(HealthWire)--November 10, 1994--CoCensys, Inc. (Nasdaq: COCN COCN Certified Ostomy Care Nurse ) announced today that it has appointed Lowell E. Sears to its Board of Directors, increasing the CoCensys board to eight members.

Sears, age 43, is a private investor involved in portfolio management and life sciences venture capital. From 1988 to April of this year, Sears was chief financial officer of Amgen Inc. In addition to his role as CFO See Chief Financial Officer.  of Amgen, from 1992 to 1994, Sears served as senior vice president, responsible for the Asia-Pacific region, establishing development, marketing and sales capabilities in a number of countries, including Japan and the People's Republic of China. He also served as CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board.  for the joint venture Kirin-Amgen Inc.

While at Amgen, Sears built the financial organization which took the company from a small R&D firm with no pharmaceutical sales to a leading multinational pharmaceutical company with nearly $1.4 billion in revenues. Also during this period, he raised more than $700 million in public and private market financings, as well as negotiating numerous strategic alliances and product licenses.
