CoActiv Debuts Advanced Archiving Solution with Immediate, Automatic Prior Exam Recall.

Seamless Image Migration Streamlines Transition to Advanced CoActiv Quad-Redundant Technology

RIDGEFIELD, Conn. -- CoActiv Medical([TM])-- developer of EXAM-PACS([R]), EXAM-ESSENTIALS([TM]) and EXAM-VAULT([R]) QUAD-REDUNDANT ARCHIVING([R]) -- debuts a revolutionary new digital archiving solution providing immediate, automated recall of all relevant prior exams as new images are acquired. The new solution, aptly named Auto-Fetch([TM]), eliminates the need for time-consuming exam pre-fetching and represents a dramatic enhancement to workflow, particularly for mammography mammography, diagnostic procedure that uses low-dose X rays to detect abnormalities in the breasts. The early diagnosis of breast cancer made possible by the routine use of mammography for screening women increases a woman's treatment alternatives and improves her  sites dealing with extremely large, difficult, and slow-to-transmit data sets. The CoActiv offering also includes an automated data migration feature for sites transitioning from existing archiving solutions. Auto-Fetch works seamlessly with CoActiv EXAM-PACS, other existing PACS (Picture ArChiving System) A storage and management system for high-resolution images. Typically pertaining to the medical field, images such as X-rays, MRIs and CAT scans require a greater amount of storage than other industries.  solutions and even directly with multiple modalities Modalities

in the absence of a PACS.

As part of this new turnkey digital archiving service, CoActiv will typically store five to ten years of exams on a local EXAM-VAULT archive at the imaging site. Using sophisticated CoActiv software, as new exams are acquired, they will trigger the immediate transmission of both the new exams and all relevant archived images to all appropriate workstations. Traditionally, archiving services store most older prior data in offsite image archive centers and require time-consuming long distance transmission of exams to reach the onsite PACS, which then routes them to appropriate onsite locations. Because of its unique long-term onsite archive and the new Auto-Fetch technology, the CoActiv archive solution is the easiest, fastest and most reliable on the market today. This new addition to the CoActiv EXAM-VAULT family of services also automatically sends all exams to two off-site mirrored archive servers in CoActiv's Tier-IV data centers. All studies in this QUAD-REDUNDANT ARCHIVE([R]) solution are also burned to two 25-year archival-DVDs, one sent to the client for storage and the other kept in secure CoActiv storage.

The new CoActiv solution will support archiving of any digital imaging modality modality /mo·dal·i·ty/ (mo-dal´i-te)

as well as related non-image DICOM-RT data sets. It will particularly benefit mammography sites by eliminating the long recall time and pre-fetching traditionally associated with mammography exams in older conventional archive solutions.

To streamline conversion for sites with existing in-house or outsourced image archives, the CoActiv solution includes an automated data migration utility with full field mapping and data integrity checks. The migration process follows standard industry conventions and has been tested with numerous major archiving suppliers on a full range of modalities, including mammography.

The new CoActiv offering is a specialized component of CoActiv EXAM-VAULT, an industry-leading managed medical image archiving service, considered the most reliable, redundant and safe Secure Storage Provider (SSP (1) (Service Switching Point) The local exchange node in an SS7 telephone network. The SSP can be part of the voice switch or in a separate computer connected to it. ) solution available today.

"Our new archiving model is a uniquely ideal choice for women's imaging centers requiring unlimited scalability for data-intensive mammography exams with the ability to instantly and simultaneously review multiple years of prior images," said Heere. "It is specially enhanced to streamline the complexities of image archive migration and management for customers opting to transition to our advanced new solution from an existing in-house or another managed archiving service."

CoActiv EXAM-VAULT automates image archiving through an innovative, ultra-secure QUAD-REDUNDANT ARCHIVE system that stores data in four geographically separate locations. In addition to its ultra-fast onsite archiving, EXAM-VAULT provides offsite storage in two Tier-IV data centers in different states. These facilities each access different power grids and Internet peering points. For another level of security, redundant copies of all client exams are also stored on two sets of 25-year archival DVDs. One set is sent to the client site for local shelf storage, and one is retained by CoActiv for extra security.

This new CoActiv solution was developed in consultation with a number of the country's foremost women's imaging centers. The comprehensive offering includes complete exam migration, redundant on- and offsite storage, CoActiv's innovative Auto-Fetch functionality and more, all at an affordable price. The managed archiving service integrates with any PACS and also functions with a direct-to-modality connection for sites without a PACS.

Users of this new version of the CoActiv EXAM-VAULT will enjoy instant multi-year retrieval of priors, along with HIPAA-compliant and audited security. CoActiv IT and data security experts will monitor and manage all archiving functionality and maintain an ongoing commitment to technology upgrades, making obsolescence ob·so·les·cent

"In today's rapidly evolving radiology business environment, often imaging sites are seeking new, secure, high-performance and more affordable archiving options," said Heere. "CoActiv has filled the void in the marketplace with a comprehensive managed archiving service that offers some of the most advanced technology available today. Advanced functionality at an affordable price is an important reason why CoActiv's business has expanded rapidly in today's challenging marketplace, where so many medical facilities are experiencing a slowdown. In fact, our business more than doubled during Q1 of this year compared to the same quarter during 2008 because the marketplace is embracing our uniquely cost-effective solution."
