GRAMMYNOMINATED artist and acclaimed DJ and Producer Paul van Dyk This article is about the DJ. For the American historian, see Paul Van Dyke.

Paul van Dyk (born Matthias Paul; November 16, 1971 (1971--)
has been smashing up clubs the world over since the mid-Nineties.

He's sold more than three million albums, been voted the world's No.1 DJ twice and appears at the pinnacle pinnacle (pĭn`ĭkəl), minor architectural motif of vertical tapering shape, usually crowning a pier, buttress, or gable. Although sometimes it appears in Renaissance design, as in the Certosa di Pavia, it is almost exclusively a medieval  of every Top DJ list across the globe.

Tonight the man referred to by his fans simply as PVD PVD

is back in Scotland to play his first gig at The Arches since 2007.

His full-on shows at the Glasgow venue are always one of the highlights of the year, and the German expects this evening's party to be no exception.

He said: "I love The Arches, which is why I always come back. It has an intense, powerful vibe. It's inspiring to play in front of a crowd like that."

Paul heads to Scotland at the end of a summer that has seen dance music dominate the charts. It seems we could be entering another golden period for dance music and the trance trance (trans) a sleeplike state of altered consciousness marked by heightened focal awareness and reduced peripheral awareness.

 scene in particular.

Paul said: "With technology developing the music is sounding better these days. At the same time a lot more people can afford to get equipment and do something themselves, which means there's loads of great stuff out there now.

"It's also so much easier to reach out to your favourite DJs wherever they are and I don't think different territories are that important today. Electronic music and especially the trancey world are very global now and popular internationally compared to other styles of music".

So with a sixth studio album on the way next year - should we be expecting the hard working German to follow guys like David Guetta David Guetta (born November 7 1967 in Paris) is a French DJ.

At age 13, he began mixing his first vinyls. At 17, he worked as a DJ at 'Broad' in Paris, launching his career. From 1988–1990, he mixed house music at Radio Nova.
to the top of the charts in the not so distant future? Not likely.

He said: "There is a distinction between pop music and club music. David Guetta's music has nothing to do with clubs, it is pop music that uses a straight base drum.

"It's done well because it has a certain drive to it but it has nothing to do with what I do for example.

"Making a track and seeing people enjoying it is what makes it all worthwhile, not chart success. For me, the most important thing is always the next gig and to bring across why I love that kind of music so much."

The Colours Summer Party, tonight @ The Arches, Glasgow, 10pm-3am, pounds 24 plus booking fee.
