Club to replace wrecked pavilion.


A CRICKET club plagued by vandals want a new, secure pavilion.

Nuffield Cricket Club were hit several times over by summer by vandals at their Birkby ground.

Now they have submitted plans to Kirklees Council for a modern pre-formed pavilion, which is easier to maintain and vandal-proof.

The club, which has been in existence for 75 years, has been given grants from Kirklees Council and Sport England Sport England (formerly the English Sports Council) is the governing body responsible for advising, investing in and promoting community sport in England. Its ambition is to get two million people more active in sport by 2012.  to improve the clubhouse.

The club, of Birkby Hall Road, Birkby, has been plagued by vandalism The intentional and malicious destruction of or damage to the property of another.

The intentional destruction of property is popularly referred to as vandalism. It includes behavior such as breaking windows, slashing tires, spray painting a wall with graffiti, and
 since April.

The new building will be a secure cabin which will incorporate dressing rooms, kitchen facilities and a scorebox.

It will be sited in the same location in a corner of the field.

Chairman Max Ahmed said: "The existing buildings are beyond repair so he only option is for the club to replace them with something similar".

The vandals who struck in the summer smashed windows and pulled off security mesh to get into the building.

A fire was also started in one of the dressing rooms.
