A Rugby League club last night pledged its support to one of its stars who was taken to hospital for mental health checks after he was arrested following two assaults.

Huddersfield Giants Huddersfield Giants are a professional rugby league club (from Huddersfield, West Yorkshire) who play in the Super League. They are currently coached by Jon Sharp and play their home games at the Galpharm Stadium (which they share with Huddersfield Town FC).  centre Paul Whatuira Paul Khan Whatuira (born July 31 1981 in Wellington, New Zealand) is a New Zealand rugby league player for the Wests Tigers in the National Rugby League competition. From 2008 he will play for the Huddersfield Giants in the Super League where he is contracted until the end of the , 28, was detained by police in the West Yorkshire town yesterday morning after the assaults were reported to officers.

Officers were called after two men were attacked at an address on St Thomas's Road. One is said to have received serious injuries to his face.
