Club reviews; M8 Colours @ The Arches, Glasgow.

ANOTHER month and another mention for the mighty Colours. Fresh from the success of their big Braehead bash, Ricky Magowan and co. have gone and done it again, injecting a continental twist into this month's proceedings at The Arches.

It was always going to be a bit tricky to fill the club a week after Coloursfest, so they invited Holland's finest club night,Kremlin, over to host the main room, while some new names were given a break in the second.

Dutch spinners Sander Kleinenberg and Emjay were due to jet into Glasgow for a night of progressive house and twisted tribal sounds. Unfortunately, Sander's records managed to get lost on a connecting flight to London, so it was no show for Mr Kleinenberg. Still, the Colours crowd were left in the capable hands of Kremlin resident Emjay.

He has recently compiled The Underground Sounds Of Holland EP for Paul Oakenfold's Perfecto label and a covermount CD for M8.

To say he went down a storm is putting it mildly. The Amsterdam-based club night is currently on a bit of a world tour, and what better place to make a mark in Britain than at the UK's No1 club? Colours is on the second Saturday of the month at the Arches.

Shake The Disease @ QMU, Glasgow

RAPIDLY becoming the underground sound of Glasgow, Shake The Disease has been bringing a series of top-notch guests to Scotland since it first opened its doors.

This was a bit special though, as one of dance music's true pioneers ventured north of the border for a one-off party at the Queen Margaret Union.

The QMU has played host to its fair share of DJ-ing talent in the last couple of years - but few can hold a torch to the talents of Andrew Weatherall.

From his early remix work, right through to his recent productions with Keith Tenniswood as Two Lone Swordsmen, Weatherall has been a constant source of inspiration to much of the dance music community. And his DJing isn't half bad, either.

His slot at the QMU had them dancing all night, his twisted take on techno rattling the foundations of the university. Keep your eyes open for more club nights at the QMU in October.

Red Square Retro Tour @ Ice Factory, Perth

The final stop for the Red Square Retro Tour saw the club classics night pull into the much-loved surroundings of the Ice Factory.

As always, the Perth punters were on top form, providing the ideal crowd for the Red Square residents to play out their party-pleasing nostalgia.

This 20-date Retro Tour has been all over the UK, but we reckon you'd be hard pushed to find a better crowd than the Ice Factory's regulars anywhere in the country. It's no wonder the monthly Rhumba Club night is a favourite with many top DJs.

THERE'S plenty of dancefloor action planned for this year's Edinburgh Festival, with Faithless and DJ Shadow both announcing gigs as part of the annual T On The Fringe festival. DJ Shadow is playing the Corn Exchange on August 7 while Faithless will be playing a massive 5000-capacity gig at Ingliston on August 23.

TOP trance label Platipus celebrates 10 years of top tunes on Monday with its 100th release, the outstanding Ten Squared compilation.

The double album is mixed by Art Of Trance and Tilt and features 22 tracks that give an insight into what makes Platipus one of the most respected labels on the trance scene.

A GOOD tip to be one of this year's Ibiza anthems will finally be released tommorrow. Black AM by Watkins, a track inspired by the macabre work of New York photographer Weegee, was originally due to hit the shops last autumn.

But for of a variety reasons - including rumours of a date change due to the events of September 11 - it's now getting a summer release.

No bad thing, really, as this catchy slice of vocal house is ideal for humming on your holidays.
