Club makes the most of Mondays.


SHREWSBURY - The Shrewsbury Monday Club recently honored 16 of its members, who are 90 years of age and older, with an Award of Life.

"This program is dedicated to life as lived by those here today," said club President Harvey Grell, at the April 14 event.

The seniors honored were: Mary Donelan, Madeline Gentile, Eleanor Goulet, Lillian Guyette, Helen Jarzobski, Anna Keiser, Mary Kimball, Rose Larson, Ann Lehman, Jane Luikey, Albert Miller, Nicola Wyman, Helen Zingarelli, Bob Lutz Bob Lutz may refer to:
  • Bob Lutz (tennis)
  • Bob Lutz, Vice Chairman at General Motors
  • Bobby Lutz, US Basketball coach
, Hazel hazel, any plant of the genus Corylus of the family Betulaceae (birch family), shrubs or small trees with foliage similar to the related alders. They are often cultivated for ornament and for the edible nuts.  O'Brien and Beatrice Costello.

 Moira Miller said, that the 90s are the new 80s.

"It's interesting to note all of you in your 90s were born at the end of World War I," Miller said. "It was inconceivable by many that you would live into your 90s."

Many of the honorees praised the club and expressed gratitude for their friendships.

"How wonderful to be remembered today," said honoree Lehman. "I've had a wonderful life. I go to bed every night counting my blessings for my wonderful friends."

Honoree Keiser agreed.

"We've been together years and years," she said. "As the years go by, I thank God for everything we have."

The Shrewsbury Monday Club meets at the senior center.

"I have a wonderful time on Monday," said honoree Larson. "It's the best day of the week because I can be with my friends."

The group was organized approximately 40 years ago by John Concordia, who said it originally combined parishioners from the churches of St. Mary and St. Anne.

"The Knights of Columbus Knights of Columbus, American Roman Catholic society for men, founded (1882) at New Haven, Conn. (where its headquarters are still located), by Father Michael J. McGivney.  provided a neutral territory for them to meet," at the organization's former location on South Street, Concordia said.

, was also attended by Sen. Edward M. Augustus Jr., Rep. Karyn Polito, Town Manager Daniel Morgado, as well as selectmen SELECTMEN. Of the honorees, all but Donelan, Kimball and Albert Miller attended the ceremony.
