Club handbooks.

There was a discussion recently in the PhotoEditors Yahoo group regarding club handbooks--does the club have one; is a paper copy handed out; or is it only posted on the club website? It seems the trend is moving towards only having club information posted on the web. However, several clubs do have an information packet that is handed out to all members at the beginning of the year, and then given to new (or potentially new) members as they visit the club during the year. It can be handy to have a paper copy available if the member is not near their computer, but at least one editor felt that producing a paper copy of a handbook takes time away from other projects.

The most common items in a member handbook are: competition rules and guidelines guidelines,

; club by-laws; a contact list of officers; a page listing discounts available to members from vendors; a list of job descriptions of officers; and a page of frequently asked questions and answers. Some clubs also produce a club brochure and/or schedule of events for the season that may be included. Other clubs also produce a business card, which is convenient for all members to carry when they meet a potential member. At a minimum, it should list the club website, and preferably pref·er·a·ble
