Clipper heads for Africa after visit to orphanage.


THE Clipper Round the World yacht race The Clipper Round the World Yacht Race was conceived in 1995 by well-known yachtsman Sir Robin Knox-Johnston and together with William Ward, founded Clipper Ventures, a company that would run the race. The first race set off a year later on 16 October 1996.  has left Brazil on the latest leg of the gruelling 35,000-mile competition.

Liverpool 08 is in third place overall in the race, which is due to return to the Mersey next July.

As his team made final repairs to damaged spinnakers at the Centro Mari-timo de Bahia, Liverpool 08 skipper Ben Galloway said: "It will be an interesting leg with complicated weather which will be a challenge for the crew, but one which I know they're looking forward to."

During the visit to Salvador, Liverpool 08 crew member, teacher Akmed Musleh, 28, visited a local orphanage to hand over clothes, stationery and mementoes of his home.
