Clinical optics primer for ophthalmic medical personnel; a guide to laws, formulae, calculations, and clinical applications.9781556428999 Clinical optics primer for ophthalmic medical personnel; a guide to laws, formulae, calculations, and clinical applications. Shukla, Aaron V. Slack Inc. 2009 250 pages $44.95 Paperback QP475 Everyone in the profession hates ophthalmic optics, admits Shukla (ophthalmic technology, St. Catherine U., Minnesota), though optics are at the heart of every measurement. What is worse, he says, technicians who once learned to calculate even simple things like focal length and diopters cannot remember how when they need to. He thinks the problem is that the textbooks are not very interested, so that students pretty much sleep their way through the course, and do not have enough exercises, or enough variety of them, to allow students to acquire deftness. He sets out the basics in a manner that he believes is simple and concise enough to grasp quickly and retain long. He also provides many examples of simple calculations and extensive examples of clinical applications. Answers to the review questions are appended. The glossary does not indicate pronunciation.
