Clinical Dynamics Launches CDI C.O.D.E. Data Quality Software Application.

Clinical Dynamics, Inc., a healthcare technology company delivering innovative solutions for clinical outcomes analysis and quality improvement, unveiled a new software application called CDI C.O.D.E.(TM) during the annual AHIMA conference. CDI C.O.D.E., short for Clinical Outcomes Data Evaluation, is a powerful data auditing tool that allows health information management professionals to assure data quality and optimize internal efficiencies. CDI C.O.D.E. also provides an approved interface for submission to many state and federal regulatory agencies.

The CDI C.O.D.E. software provides a service to HIM staff, while the application itself resides at Clinical Dynamics' application server in Santa Cruz, Calif. Data sets from hospital health information systems are run through an auditing process that incorporates over 50,000 edits. This process incorporates industry standard coding "edits" augmented by CDI proprietary edits to identify inappropriate coding. These edits not only monitor medical record coding in the classic sense, but also place special emphasis on the corporate compliance aspects of coding in accordance with guidelines issued by the U.S. Inspector General's office.

CDI C.O.D.E. generates electronic reports intended for use by hospital medical records departments, finance staff and corporate compliance officers. CDI developed this application with a team of coding consultants to identify inconsistent coding practices, as well as assess compliance enforcement risk related to "over-coding." All coding errors and opportunities can be trended by individual edit type. Individual coder performance profiling is also offered. This allows for coder-specific feedback and education.

The output of CDI's coding editor is an on-line or Internet-accessible report. HIM staff upload data to the secure web site which initiates the auditing process. Reports then are retrieved and reviewed on-line.
