Various arrhythmias can be symptoms of serious heart disorders; however, they are usually of no medical significance except in the presence of  Death Syndromes (SADS) Foundation to be a primary sponsor of the organization. As part of the agreement, Clinical Data will serve as a Summit Sponsor for the 2007 Climb to Conquer SADS, which will take place June 23-25, 2007 on Mt. Rainier. PGxHealth will support a team from the SADS Foundation that will attempt to climb Mt. Rainier to raise money and awareness for sudden arrhythmia death syndromes like the congenital long QT syndrome The long QT syndrome (LQTS) is a heart condition associated with prolongation of repolarisation (recovery) following depolarisation (excitation) of the cardiac ventricles. It is associated with syncope (fainting) and sudden death due to ventricular arrhythmias.  (LQTS LQTS Long QT interval syndrome, see there ).

The Climb to Conquer SADS sponsorship marks the beginning of what PGxHealth and the SADS Foundation expect to be an ongoing relationship between the two organizations to support families who are genetically predisposed pre·dis·pose

A genetic test examines the genetic information contained inside a person's cells, called DNA, to determine if that person has or will develop a certain disease or could pass a disease to his or her offspring.
for the diagnosis and treatment of these conditions. The two groups will also form a task force to actively engage payers regarding the reimbursement for these critical genetic tests.

"Sudden arrhythmia death is a particularly tragic occurrence in part because, with today's diagnostic tools and treatments, heart rhythm abnormalities are a manageable health condition. Clinical Data's partnership with the SADS Foundation will assist physicians and patients in gaining access to state of the art technologies in this area and will educate these and other constituents, including payers, on the value of genetic testing," said Drew Fromkin, Chief Executive Officer of Clinical Data. "It is an honor to work with the dedicated individuals at the SADS Foundation and to support awareness of heart rhythm abnormalities and the role genetic testing can play in saving lives."

"Sudden arrhythmia death syndromes continue to kill otherwise healthy infants, children, adolescents, and adults at an unacceptably high rate. Fortunately, death can be avoided if these heart rhythm abnormalities are caught early and treated," said SADS Foundation president Michael J. Ackerman, MD, PhD. "For this reason we are very excited to enter into this agreement with Clinical Data. The company's FAMILION([R]) test is a vital tool for diagnosing these potentially lethal syndromes. Our collective efforts to generate awareness for tests such as FAMILION and other early detection tools will save lives by reducing the frequency of sudden arrhythmia death."

About PGxHealth

PGxHealth[TM] has extensive experience and capabilities in the development, clinical validation and delivery of genomic-based tests, in particular in the areas of efficacy and safety biomarkers for appropriate drug utilization. Through its own know-how and resources, work conducted with some of the world's most prestigious genomics thought leaders and institutions, and use of innovative technologies, PGxHealth is focused on reducing treatment costs and improving clinical outcomes in those disease states and therapeutic classes beset with expensive, inefficient or suboptimal Suboptimal

About FAMILION

By detecting genetic mutations, FAMILION can be used to recognize cardiac channelopathies such as LQTS and Brugada Syndrome Brugada syndrome Cardiology A condition in which people with no known heart problems or defects suffer sudden cardiac death or aborted sudden cardiac death EKG Right bundle branch block, persistent ST-segment elevation in V1 to V3 unexplained by electrolyte  in individuals and their families and guide treatment to prevent the deadly cardiac events they can cause.

Its Cogenics division provides molecular biology molecular biology, scientific study of the molecular basis of life processes, including cellular respiration, excretion, and reproduction. The term molecular biology was coined in 1938 by Warren Weaver, then director of the natural sciences program at the Rockefeller  and pharmacogenomics Pharmacogenomics is the branch of pharmacology which deals with the influence of genetic variation on drug response in patients by correlating gene expression or single-nucleotide polymorphisms with a drug's efficacy or toxicity.  services to pharmaceutical and biotech companies and academics institutions in both research and regulated environments. Its PGxHealth division focuses on genetic test and biomarker development to help predict drug safety and efficacy, thereby reducing health care costs and improving clinical outcomes. Its Vital Diagnostics division offers in vitro diagnostics In vitro diagnostic (IVD) tests are medical tests conducted in a test tube, or more generally in a controlled environment outside a living organism. About the SADS Foundation

The SADS Foundation is committed to supporting families and individuals with genetically mediated cardiac arrhythmias through education, research, and advocacy. Its primary goals are:

1. General Awareness/Prevention: Proactively increase the general public's knowledge of the warning signs of heart rhythm abnormalities that can cause sudden death in the young.

2. Family Support: To provide information, resources, and support to assist patients and families to make informed medical decisions and to live with the challenges of these conditions.

3. Education-professionals: To facilitate early diagnosis and treatment of heart rhythm abnormalities by implementing strategies to ensure that healthcare providers have all available current and relevant information.

4. Advocacy: To encourage research, to advocate for nondiscriminatory treatment, and to support efforts that will improve the quality of life for patients with heart rhythm abnormalities.
